Heavy rain Thursday morning has flooded streets in Addis and caused multiple car crashes, the West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said.听
The Sheriff鈥檚 Office evacuated about 30 people, including some families with children from apartments off La. 1 South in Addis, to the VFW Hall on Myhand Street. The water at its peak hit above knee level, one officer said, but by close to noon had begun to recede.
鈥淭his is probably the worst I鈥檝e seen it since I鈥檝e been here, and I鈥檝e been here since 2003,鈥 said Addis Police Chief Jason Langlois听
One Addis street was completely covered by water shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, according to photos shared by the Sheriff's Office.听
The Sheriff's Office has worked multiple crashes through the morning, it said.
"Please slow down and drive with caution!" the department said.
The West Baton Rouge Parish government said shortly before 11 a.m. that the parish president and administration "continue to monitor the potential heavy rain in our area."
Sand and bags are available at the following locations, the parish said. Residents should bring their own shovels:
- William and Lee Park, 1631 Louisiana Ave., Port Allen.
- Rivault Park, 900 South Jefferson Ave., Port Allen.
- Alexander Park, 250 Elaine St., Brusly.
- Erwinville Park, 5110 Rougon Road, Port Allen.
- Myhand Park, 8201 Laws Road, Addis.
- South Winterville Water Tower.
- Lobdell Fire Station, 2937 Lafiton Lane, Port Allen.
- Addis Fire Station, 6875 La. 1, Addis.
