Strong winds wereÌý Wednesday, with some recorded gusts reaching speeds of over 50 mph before noon.Ìý

Wind reports released by National Weather Service just after noon show wind gusts ranging from 30 to 50 mph across south Louisiana. A Category 1 hurricane, in comparison, produces sustained winds of 74 to 95 mph.

The breezy day prompted the NWS to issue a wind advisory for all of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi until 7 p.m. The winds could also elevate water levels and flooding in coastal areas, according to the NWS.
