Around 20-30 structures were damaged by a tornado  area in Tangiaphoa Parish Saturday afternoon, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries, the sheriff says.
Speaking from the scene in a driving rainstorm, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker said the extent of the damage was still undetermined Saturday afternoon.
"That might take a little while. But I'm told there's going to be some total losses," he said of the damaged homes.
"Thank goodness there's no injuries to speak of," he added. "We were lucky."
The tornado touched down around 12:30 p.m., spun from a weather system moving northeast across the region. Kentwood is in the extreme northern part of Tangipahoa Parish, not far from the Mississippi state line.
Sticker said the heaviest damage to structures was in the East Fork community near Kentwood.Â
"It's all the telltale signs — lots of trees snapped and twisted. Lots of structures with damage."
By mid-afternoon, the community was abuzz with first-responders and workers clearing downed power lines and trees, he said.Â
Sticker said first-responders did "pull" someone from a damaged structure, but that person was not injured.Â
